True healing
True healing deals with the often invisible root causes of disease. We have become so used to having our symptoms removed, temporarily at least, by pills and other instant remedies that we do not usually address the underlying energetic, emotional or spiritual imbalance that has led to our illness. However, systems of healing which treat the whole person, body, mind and spirit, have long existed and many are being rediscovered or devised anew today. Reiki is one such system.
What is Reiki?
Reiki ( pronounced ray-key ) is a form of healing that uses the energy radiating from the hands of the practitioner to help bring into balance the natural life energy of the recipient. The word Reiki is a Japanese term meaning: UNIVERSAL LIFE FORCE,
Ki being the same term as the Chinese chi, or the Sanskrit prana. Ki is the unseen energy that permeates all living creatures. When it is flowing through us without blockage, we are more able to resist disease and are likely to be happy and balanced, not only physically but also emotionally and mentally.
History of Reiki
The Reiki system of healing was developed in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui towards the end of the 19th century, although many regard its roots as going back to ancient Tibet.
There are several versions of the story of the origin of Reiki. One of the them tells how Usui stumbled upon an ancient Buddhist manurelating to healing and then traveled to Tibet to deepen his understanding of the teachings it contained. Another version of the history has Usui as the principal of a Christian college who sets off on his quest for understanding after being asked by his pupils to teach the healing methods used by Christ. Both versions of the story agree that after much searching, studying and meditation, Usui came to very powerful realizations about the nature of healing.
Whatever the true of Reikis origins, in Dr Usui is hands it developed into a simple and extremely effective system of healing, which can easily be learnt by anybody. Before his death in 1926 he passed on the knowledge to one of his students, Dr Churijo Hayashi, who in turn transmitted it to Mrs Hawayo Takata in Hawaii juts before the start of World War I I. Before her death in 1980 Mrs Takata trained 22 Reiki Masters to ensure the continuation of the technique.
Healing situations
Although the Reiki method is taught using specific hand placements on or over the body, the experienced practitioner does not have to follow these positions. They are simply a basis upon which to develop ones own method, adapting it to the particular circumstances of each recipient. The recipient does not even have to be physically present, as the life energy is limitless and not restricted by space and time.
Reiki can be used effectively to treat animals, plant and even situations, such as relationships. Moreover, because everything ultimately consists of energy, it is possible to use Reiki whit so-called inanimate objects.
From the highest source
Reiki is not a religion and does not required that practitioners or recipients adhere to any dogma or creed. The energy it uses comes from the highest source, which some call God. Reiki practitioners are simply the transmitters of this universal energy which in effect enables the recipient to return to a natural state of alignment whit his or her own Higher Self. It can be used alongside other form of therapy and is always gentle and beneficial.
