Hello everybody, I thought that is time to open our group discussion, and for that I've brought a litle text with the group theme.
"The Internet has had a serious impact on the sexual exploitation of children, specifically the distribution of sexually exploitive images of children. According to theNational Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the use of home-computer technology has revolutionized the distribution of these images by increasing the ease and decreasing the cost of production and distribution, especially across international borders. A greater number of child molesters are now using computer technology, not only to organize and maintain their collection of these illegal images, but to add to them as well. The Internet has also dramatically increased sex offenders’ access to the population they seek to victimize. Although some computer sex offenders primarily collect and trade child pornographic images over the Internet, others seek face-to-face meetings with children via online contacts. Once contact is made, child molesters may use pornography to seduce their prey, to lower the victim’s inhibitions, and to serve as a kind of instruction manual – claiming to prove to the child that sex between an adult and a child is “normal”. Whether children come across pornography accidentally online or are deliberately exposed to it, viewing these images can result in devastating psychological effects." Posted by Helena

I once saw a news report about a small group of people who go thru thousands & thousands of suspected child pornography videos & pictures.
They said the biggest problem in identifying which images are true or not is because of these Photoshop programs where you can put a childs face on any nude/pornographic pic & it looks as if it's real. I've reported many to Law Enforcement not only here in the U.S. but in other countries as well. The problem is so huge that the authorities just don't have the funding or resources for keeping up. Their hands are, literally, tied up in red tape so the process of getting these animals has been sooo slow. Predators are very sneaky. They seem to know the right words to use on these kids. What I don't understand .. with all the information out there aimed at children/teens to be careful when online & all the stories/videos about this, they STILL seem to think they know better or that it won't happen to them. And the ages this starts is dropping (once reported a 5 yr old on here!!) I understand about the problems at home, lack of attention etc etc etc .. but these kids know what can happen to them & yet some seem to lure these guys on & think its a fun game. (SIGH) I just don't get that. Posted by Kathy

On this moment there are 2 Dutch guy who are condemm in Brazil for child abuse and porn, for many years get must go to jail, they whent to the Dutch ambassety get a ticket to Holland and now they are free. Thats make my so angry. Posted by Trijnie

Yes, that's why are so many animals going on the road like anyone else. Law at least here in Portugal is very soft...The children are aware of all these kind of predators, but they think that they can manage, and bad things only happens to others, but unfortunetly sometimes it's too late.......

Hello girls, we have the same here in Latin America, law is very soft and the enforcement of this law is even weaker. I know Children are aware of these problems and they still are exposed.
My big question is where are their parents???? I have found profiles here of 10 12 year olds that have photos as if they were models????? Who take this childs photos? Who permit them to expose the pictures in the internet?? I have even found in their profiles messages from their sisters and parents encouraging them because they are so pretty?? Am I crazy or is this a stupid thing to do as a parent?? I really think children only have us adults to take care of them and guide them, if we do not do this for them, who will? Are not their parents supposed to keep the watch on them? Can´t we have control over our teens? Posted by diana asahi

I have a list of 'age of consent' laws for countries around the world. Some go as young as 10 yrs old!!
There are states here in the U.S. where age of consent is 14!! I'll see if I can find it in my files & post it Posted by Kathy

Thank goodness the age of 10 was raised to 12 but it is still too young Posted by Kathy

I believe that in the profiles of the 10's that Diana is talking about, the familys of these children can´t be normal...., because I don't beleive that any Parent - and I mean PARENT - approve this kind of pictures!!!!!!!!The one that suport that kind of pictures can only be sick of their mind!!!!!!!

The problem Helena is that I think these parents believe their children are so beautiful they want them to be artists or models, so they encourage them to do this. I believe the education of risk at the internet should be a priority to parents, maybe they have some idea but they are not full aware of what's going on.
I believe there should be a strong informative campaign directed to adults, not children as they do not have enough criteria to decide, and that's just to start. Posted by diana asahi
